Spring is a busy time for USC Upstate’s Track and Field athletes, as they compete in both indoor and outdoor events.

Most recently, two Spartans broke school records. Jeremiah Harris broke the previous school record with his 21.12 200-meter dash. Jamarcus Askew follows that up with a performance of his own, breaking the record for the triple jump (UpstateSpartans.com).

After already competing in a series of Invitationals since the start of the year, the Spartans will turn their attention to the Asheville Bulldog Invite taking place on April 11-April 12 in Asheville, North Carolina.

A member of the Outdoor Team, Ricco Carter Jr. is excited for the future of the program. He said, “We’re looking at really good things coming out of the indoor season as the men’s track and field team finished 3rd place at big south indoor championships which is the best we’ve ever placed in history with a score of 79.5 points. The women’s track and field finished 5th as well. Heading into outdoor, we’re looking for good things as outdoor has more events like 4×1, 400H, and other things where we can possibly score points in. Men’s finished 2nd at the outdoor conference last year so we’re looking to aim for that, or 1st place again!”

The Big South Outdoor Track and Field Championships will also take place in Asheville, North Carolina, from Monday, May 12-Wednesday, May 14. The NCAA East Preliminaries and NCAA National Championships will then follow later in May.
