Homecoming Recap

The Lady Spartans faced off against the Campbell Camels for homecoming at the G.B. Hodge Arena. The fans showed up to support the Spartans as the team fought throughout the game. To the delight of the fans in attendance (550) the two teams forced the game to double overtime. The Camels came out on top in this one by a score of 80-72. The Lady Spartans were led in scoring by Brianna Lewis with 25 points. Riley Popplewell earned herself a double-double with 17 points and 17 rebounds. Kathryn Kirkwood contributed off the bench with 13 points as well. The Lady Spartans showed determination throughout the game and this can only lead to wins in the future. The Lady Spartans next game is on Tuesday, February 4 at 6:00 p.m. at home against Presbyterian College.

The Spartans men’s team came out strong to start the game against Campbell but ultimately fell behind as the first half came to an end. At halftime the Camels were up 44-34. That did not stop the Spartans from battling back as they started heating up almost immediately as the second half was all theirs. The Spartans had the support of a sell out crowd with 833 fans in attendance. Freshman guard Tommy Bruner had a career night after posting his previous best just Thursday night against Presbyterian (28 points) with a performance of 30 points. Bruner put the team on his back, and it trickled down to the rest of the team as they won the game by a score of 91-74. With this win the Spartans are now on a 3-game winning streak. The next game for the Spartans is Thursday, February 6 at 6:00 p.m. when the travel to take on UNC Asheville.
