With the announcement of the library addition, students and faculty were excited to have more study spaces. However, with the start of construction came the significant lack of parking.
Upon the start of this year’s fall semester, students were abruptly welcomed to a large portion of commuter parking lot blocked off.
Currently, most of the spaces in the C2 lot in front of the library are blocked off for construction deliveries. There are only three rows available for commuters in front of the library.
Students with 8 a.m. classes have no problem finding parking in the C3 HPAC lot, but for those who have classes starting at 9:30 a.m. or later, they must find alternative parking. For many, this means parking in lot C1, in front of the administration building. This creates a minimum five-minute walk to get to the library, Smith Science, or HPAC.
Professors and students alike are fed up with the lack of parking, not understanding why the construction didn’t start over the summer. The long walks have caused students and professors alike to be late to class.
According to a university statement in April, the construction is expected to be completed by Fall 2026.
In meantime, campus parking maps are available online as a resource, showing all commuter and overflow parking areas.
