“Obsession” is a recent released horror-thriller film in 2026. Directed by Curry
Barker, starring Inde Navarrette (Nikki), Michael Johnson (Bear), Megan Lawless
(Sarah), and Cooper Tomlinson (Ian). It was such a successful film that its $750,000
budget made back over $501 million. In summary, what the movie is about: a man named “Bear” who is in love with a woman named “Nikki” and wants to be
with her. One day he finds a mysterious “One Wish Willow” to get what he wants
even if it ends up at a sinister price.
“Obsession” is my current obsession. The horror is very well made and has an
amazing story and character choices. Not only that, but the camera work is
amazing. How they use the camera and lighting to tell the story is “chef’s kiss”.
They use the shadows over Nikki’s face to show the difference between
regular Nikki and possessed Nikki. They use wide shots as well to put you on edge
because you get the feeling something is going to happen. As well as the movie
being in muted tones in certain sections of the movie since it’s from Bear’s point of
view and he is depressed. But when Bear is happy, the colors brighten up in a
higher saturation. Furthermore, each character’s actions show their personality.
Bear’s cowardice and obsession with Nikki are shown constantly by not letting her go
and refusal to end things. As well as by not confessing until he was a bit sure of the
wish working.
The great thing about this movie, other than storytelling elements, is the rewatch
ability. After watching the movie the first time and just enjoying it, you can
continue to rewatch it to find more details and come up with theories based on
what you watched or found. Highly recommended.
