While golf is a year-round sport, it’s in full swing as both of USC Upstate’s Men’s and Women’s golf teams prepare for the Big South Golf Championship.

In Fripp Island, South Carolina, the Women’s Tournament will take place from April 13-16, while the Men’s Tournament will follow a few days after from April 20-23.

Both teams have had successful seasons, with the men’s team taking first place at the Fripp Island Intercollegiate back in November of 2024. The women’s team most recently grabbed 9th place at the Golfweek Spring Invite in Pawleys Island in the beginning of April.

A junior on the Women’s Golf Team from Landrum, South Carolina, Eliza Whiteside said, “Over the past few weeks we have been working hard in tournaments. We have posted some great scores and hope to use this momentum and kill it in conference! Hopefully we can keep breaking our personal records and post some scores to be proud of!”

Both golf teams have also received Big South Golfer of the Week Honors. The most recent women’s golfer to receive the award was Rylie Kosney, who claimed this honor on April 3rd. Sweeping the Golfer of the Week Awards, Jackson Stone won Men’s Golfer of the Week the same day Kosney did.

The Spartan’s look to use this recent momentum as the Big South Golf Championships can create history for these two teams. Led by Coach Todd Lawton in his twentieth year, USC Upstate Golf is swinging for success.
