Sinners is an action-horror film released on April 18, 2025, directed by Ryan Coogler. You might know Ryan Coogler from his other films, including Creed, Black Panther, and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Which are all action films, but this takes on the horror aspect and excels.

Not only an amazing director, but in this film, there are amazing actors as well as Michael B. Jordan as Smoke and Stack, Hailee Steinfeld as Mary, Wunmi Mosaku as Annie, Miles Canton as Sammie, Jayme Lawson as Pearline, Omar Miller as Cornbread, Jack O’Connell as Remmick, etc. The entire cast was amazing in this movie.

When you are watching a horror film, most likely you are on edge, trying to take in every detail to figure out when things are going wrong. Coogler uses the horror aspect to make the audience focus on every detail in the movie.

With the film being set in 1932 Mississippi during the Jim Crow era, the movie talks about religion & spirituality, racism, music (specifically the blues), indentity, and culture. The vampires are not the only threat in this movie; so are the KKK. Which are the main concerns of the characters until the vampires are reveleved then it’s the KKK again.

Also, the film talks about religion, spirituality, music, and how they influence each other. This film has a lot of good talking points and discussion materials, things we can think about. So much that I can’t put it all into this article.

Sinners deserve the praise it is getting and won six awards at the Golden Globes this year, 2026. The awards that they won were: Cinematic and Box Office Achievement, Original Score, Drama Motion Picture, Director of a Motion Picture, Actor in a Drama Motion Picture, and Screenplay of a Motion Picture.

The rating I am giving Sinners is 10/10. From the storytelling, symbolism, music, acting, pacing, and overall experience was just an unforgettable experience.

This movie made me feel a range of emotions and sometimes took the breath out of my lungs from how breathtaking it was. Not only was the first watch a captivating experience, but it never gets boring on each rewatch, as you find new details that you might have missed on the other watches.

You can stream Sinners on HBO Max.
