I recently had the pleasure of speaking with senior Theatre Performance major, Krischan Taylor. Krischan is currently playing Banquo in USC Upstate’s production of ‘Macbeth’, as well as serving as fight captain and fight choreographer for the production. I sat down with Krischan to ask more about his experience at Upstate.
Why did you choose to be a theatre major?
KRISCHAN: I chose to be a theatre major because it was the only thing I could really see myself doing long term and found a real passion for.
What has been your favorite thing about the theatre program at Upstate?
KRISCHAN: The faculty has been extremely supportive.
What has been your favorite role you have played and why?
KRISCHAN: Probably Banquo because the role serves as a culmination of everything I have learned throughout my time at Upstate and the script is very fun.
What has been the most challenging role you have played?
KRISCHAN: Probably Mr. Smith in ‘John Proctor is the Villain’. It was difficult to balance serving as a leader in the show while also playing a morally corrupt character.
What has been your favorite class at Upstate?
KRISCHAN: I enjoyed masked performance because it helped get me out of my comfort zone. I also enjoyed stage combat.
What are your plans after graduation?
KRISCHAN: I am performing with ‘The Lost Colony’ as an Onstage Swing. After that I plan to work professionally for a bit and possibly go into teaching.
Lastly, do you have any advice for incoming freshmen?
KRISCHAN: Don’t expect the opportunity to be handed to you. Use your initiative to create your own opportunities.
You can see Krischan in ‘Macbeth’ March 26-29 in the Humanities and Performing Arts Center at USC Upstate.
