USC Upstate has joined forces with AFSP (American Foundation for Suicide Prevention) to host an Out of Darkness Walk taking place on Saturday, March 29th from 9:00am-11:00am.
The walk’s check in and starting location will be on Upstate’s Campus, at the G.B. Hodge Center, located at 365 Hodge Drive, Spartanburg 29303.
The walk will begin around 10:00 am, after a brief ceremony, and will be approximately 1.3 miles around campus. Participates are encouraged to bring a team, family, or just themselves! Donations are accepted but not required.
Participants do not have to be a student of USC Upstate; all members of the Spartanburg Community are welcome and encouraged to attend.
To register yourself or a team, participants can visit Here or see the flyers posted around campus.
Co-Chair of the walk and USC Upstate Librarian John Siegel discusses the purpose of the event when stating, “The goal of the walk is to raise mental health awareness and suicide prevention and build a culture of care on campus and in the community, all in partnership with and support of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP).”
The walk will take place rain or shine, but attendees will be notified no later than 24 hours before the walk in the event of bad weather.
Walkers are encouraged to wear comfortable shoes and bring water.
