Women’s Soccer is coming off of a historic season, winning their first ever Big South Championship in 2024. They earned a bid to the NCAA Tournament, facing off against the eventual National Champions, UNC.
The Spartans began a tough non conference schedule, including Louisville, Wake Forest, and Davidson outside of their Big South Conference opponents. In addition, they will play their typical Big South foes, with the championship rematch taking place on September 24, as Upstate takes on High Point at home.
Upstate has a large group of returners from last year’s championship squad, featuring seniors of Catarina Dantas, Audrey Baer, Dara Russo, Savannah Noll, and more. The Spartans also picked up several preseason awards. Players to watch include Dara Russo, Riley O’Bryan, Paige Armstrong, Catarina Dantas, Savannah Noll, Hailey Sapinoro, and Emily Rangel. The Big South Coaches also voted Upstate first in the Preseason Poll, with Preseason Forward of the Year going to Dara Russo and Preseason Defender of the Year to Catarina Dantas.
Senior Captain Audrey Baer talks about the preparation for the season saying, “We’ve all been working super hard and I think we’re very excited to show how we can dominate as a team and we’re really looking forward to an amazing year together.”
